Demystify Your DSLR Camera
Have you taken your DSLR camera off automatic yet? No? Now is the time! Get acquainted with manually adjusting your aperture, shutter speed and ISO for the ultimate creative control. You’ll discover how depth of field separates your subject from the background for lovely portraits, how to capture crisp, clear landscapes and to maximize your sensor’s capability to gather light. You’ll improve your images exponentially and learn to play in ways your camera can’t compute on its own.

Travel Photography
Travel photography is a terrific introduction to capturing people, cultural events, food, architechture, land and/or cityscapes. In this class you’ll learn how to plan locations ahead of time, to pack the proper gear, and you’ll learn the skills, tips and tricks used to create iconic imagery. Quickly move beyond the act of taking snapshots and begin the conscious act of making art!

Winter Wildlife Photography
For this gear-intensive sport, you’ll learn the common threads of animal behavior, specific camera techniques to get the perfect shot, and hone your muscle memory to react at a moment’s notice. Once you understand how to build these skills, we’ll discuss the specifics of planning your next photo safari!
In the extended course, you’ll also get an introduction to Adobe Lightroom CC, exploring ways to enhance the best aspects of your wildlife images and share your work with the class for our final critique.

Night Photography
New York’s Capital Region dazzles at night! Let’s shoot the moon, stars, city lights and our incredible local architecture! Push your use of shutter speed, aperture, and ISO to your creative advantage and employ mobile apps to plan for astrological events.
For the March Class, bring your DSLR (with manual capabilities) and a tripod for a fun night photographing Empire Plaza. With the images you create, we’ll explore an introduction to editing in Adobe Lightroom. You’ll then share your work and your process during final project critiques!

NEW! Street Photography
Love observing strangers in the street in a single perfect moment? Capture a slice of unscripted life by photojournalistically shooting on the fly, eyeing a composition and awaiting a perfect moment inside, or actively engaging your subject in their personal space.
You’ll learn these shooting techniques as well as your rights and limitations as a photographer in a public space. Come practice in the streets of Troy, NY and share your work, adventures, and subjects’ stories with your classmates!

Landscape & Nature
Capture the world around you in the most beautiful way possible, from wide sweeping landscapes to the tiniest beautiful details. Learn which gear best helps you to achieve your goals and master the best settings based on the quality of light.
You’ll learn to discern how the photographers you admire set up their shots. Weekly homework and class critique will help you sharpen your own skill set.
In the extended course, we’ll explore introductory editing techniques in Adobe Lightroom CC, allowing your personality to emanate from your images.
