postheadericon Influence Positively Interview

Grouchy Puppy: CleoSharon Castellanos from GrouchyPuppy.com finds inspiration from those who Give Fearlessly and Influence Positively in the animal community. In fact, she celebrates these people in order to inspire others.  As her website says:

Our goal is to simply influence the world with positivity.  Starting from within our own community, we all can have a positive impact on the world.

Today, I am Sharon’s special guest in:
Influence Positively Questionnaire – Kim Clune

Honored to be listed among those who strive to improve the lives of animals in need, I am also inspired by those who have appeared before me and eager to read about those yet to be featured.

Thank you Sharon!

postheadericon AnimaLovers’ Companion: Dog Rescue

AnimaLovers' Companion. Click for full PDF.“Dog Rescue, for Better or Worse,” my recent article for AnimaLovers’ Companion (get the PDF), discusses the level of commitment one makes when caring for homeless animals.

When faced with a frightening medical and behavioral problem with Emmett, our challenging fostered hound mix, my husband and I knew he had nobody else. Emmett came out on the other side without issue, as did we, and in the process Emmett became ours.

We know Emmett is our family dog for all the right reasons and we couldn’t be happier. It’s difficult to imagine what his life would have been like had Emmett not had caring humans in his corner. Sadly, many animals do not. Strays, animals with health or behavioral issuess are often seen as disposable yet, if just given a chance, they can be the most valuable and appreciative friends in our lives.

postheadericon The Record – Five Questions: Kim Clune

Each week, a community member of the Capital Region is asked “Five Questions” and featured in The Record, Troy NY’s newspaper. Cecelia Martinez, a journalist and fellow Saint Rose graduate, recently interviewed me for this fun little piece.

Read “Five Questions: Kim Clune” to see how it turned out.

postheadericon Project Object in the Nippertown Review

On January 9th, 2010, Project/Object played Revolution Hall in Troy, NY. Andrzej Pilarczyk, in his Nippertown review, talks about how they began and who they are now:

An off-shoot of a Zappa birthday celebration in the New Jersey basement of guitarist Andre Cholmondeley, Project/Object has carried on Zappa’s musical legacy. Not only was Project/Object among the very first Zappa tribute bands, but, as Cholmondeley pointed out at Revolution Hall in Troy on Saturday night, they’re the only tribute band “with actual ingredients.”

“Accept no substitutes,” chimed in vocalist-guitarist Ike Willis, himself a decade-long veteran of Zappa’s bands.

(Pilarczyk’s article links to my photo gallery.)

During my days (and occasional concert nights) as a freelance publicist, Andre Cholmondeley, Ike Willis, Napoleon Murphy Brock, Don Preston and former P/O members Glenn Leonard and Robbie Mangano were always – and still remain – my favorite people. I now add Ray White to that list. These guys not only have the chops, but each is a real class act with a strong social ethic that makes the musical experience personal and the personal experience musical.

Love you guys. Thanks for the magic.

postheadericon The Thoughtful Blogger

Have you ever analyzed what blogging means to you and how it influences what you write? I did just that for Esther Prokopienko, a grad student at The College of Saint Rose. Researching both the act and platform of blogging, she incorporated the following answers into her research and posted the resulting paper, The Scholarly Writer/Blogger: A New Discursive Space, on her own blog, Esther’s Space.

Blog Breakdown

1. How long have you been blogging? Why did you choose to begin? Do you notice any changes in your writing/thinking process from before you were a blogger to now, as an active blogger? Do you use blogging as a way of thinking through ideas? How do you use the different mediums (journals, blogs, livejournals, etc) for thinking and writing?

While spending a great deal of time overseas as a flight attendant (1997-2001), I had begun a blog of sorts, The Lincoln Street Chronicles, to keep friends and family updated on my personal activities and observations. I’d also share pre-digital, scanned photos of my layovers. That primitive HTML site was hosted by Geocities and I would add entries to the top of a free, single and static web page. There was no mechanism for readers to enter comments, but I sometimes posted interesting email replies under the main post. I certainly wasn’t the only person doing this, but I suspect that blogs, as they are known today, stemmed from this type of web logging.
